Coral Minerals
& Heart Health

We all know that calcium supplementation is not only important for your bones but also for your heart and circulatory health. What you might not know is that coral calcium, which is rich in all necessary mineral cofactors, is a better choice than simply calcium alone.

Let’s examine some of the facts on calcium and heart health risk factors.

In a preliminary trial, supplementation with 800 mg of calcium per day for one year resulted in a statistically significant 35 percent reduction in the average triglyceride level among people with elevated cholesterol and triglycerides. Studies indicate that the higher the levels, the greater the effect.

Some preliminary and double-blind clinical trials have shown that supplemental calcium also reduces cholesterol levels. Possibly, speculate experts, calcium binds with and prevents absorption of dietary fat.

Calcium supplementation—typically 800 to 1,500 mg per day—may also lower blood pressure, although once again best results are seen with the most extreme cases, since calcium levels in the blood are closely regulated by the parathyroid hormone.

THE CORAL CALCIUM ADVANTAGE

But why coral calcium? Good question. This is one that we’ve researched extensively. There are many excellent calcium products available today. But one fact continues to impress us: calcium works best with a supporting cast, that is, with other mineral cofactors in order to be best absorbed and to exert its most beneficial effects.

More accurately described as coral minerals, we find some 74 minerals in coral calcium, including every trace mineral needed by the body. For example, magnesium works with calcium to support a healthy heart rhythm. Selenium is an important antioxidant that also supports heart health. Zinc regulates cholesterol and aids glucose metabolism. Iodine supports thyroid function, which keeps all organs working at an appropriate level. Vanadium and manganese assist with glucose metabolism. This is just a partial list of the trace minerals in coral calcium and the vital roles they play in our bodies.

In addition, coral contains highly absorbable forms of these trace minerals. In fact, the mineral matrix in coral is so compatible with human needs that many orthopedic surgeons now favor the use of coral instead of bone for performing grafts. There would appear to be a greater effect with a complete mineral supplement.

And that’s precisely what several recent studies demonstrate.

CORAL—THE SCIENTIFIC EVIDENCE

In a study presented at the 44th annual meeting of The Japan Dietetics Society, October 16-17, 1997, by Dr. Kazuharu Suzuki and co-researchers at the Tokyo University of Agriculture- Faculty of Agriculture/Nutrition, we find that coral minerals produce better absorption and heart-health benefits than other forms of calcium.

In the study (“Absorption of Calcium: Calcium Absorbing Rate of Natural Coral”), the research team used four kinds of calcium (natural coral calcium, calcium carbonate, milk calcium, and cow-bone calcium) to determine which would be best absorbed. According to their results, the natural coral calcium group outperformed any other group.

Dr. K. Ishitani, M.D., of Higashi Sapporo Hospital, recently presented clinical tests of coral calcium when taken by individuals suffering from a variety of common diseases. Dr. Ishitani and his colleagues administered 2.8 grams of coral calcium to more than 20 patients over a period of three months. The doctors observed changes in bone density, blood lipids, and blood pressure. Alterations were also observed in symptoms such as headaches, heart palpitations, peripheral edema (limb swelling), and emotional state, as well as in degrees of anger, anxiety, and muscle spasm. Blood pressure was reduced from an average of 140 mmHg to 132 mmHg; total cholesterol fell by about seven percent; and there was a tendency for blood lipids to alter favorably, supported by a rise in serum HDLs and a drop in triglycerides. Overall, Dr. Ishitani described the administration of coral calcium on the subjects as very favorable.

CORAL MINERALS: GOOD FOR YOUR HEART

With coral minerals, you should be able to tell rather quickly how well they are working. You will feel a greater sense of calmness and relaxation. But be sure to purchase only a quality, ecologically safe product (see Resources).

RESOURCES

After much research, we have found that Coral Inc. distributes excellent eco-safe, abovesea coral calcium and that the product is highly esteemed for purity, potency, and ecology.

Coral ComplexCoral Complex from Coral Inc. was the first (1999) powdered coral capsule product in the United States. With the addition of vitamin D3, this formula has become the most popular and successful coral capsule formula in the nation. (Vitamin D aids calcium absorption and is a critical ingredient in calcium supplements.)

EcoPure Coral PowderEco Pure Coral from Coral Inc. consists of 100 percent pure coral powder. Nothing has been added to the coral. The coral powder is extremely fine—so fine, in fact, that a small amount on the tongue simply absorbs through the mouth; one does not even need to swallow.

Both Coral Complex and Eco Pure Coral are available at many health food stores nationwide.
